Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the qualifications to fight fires?

Those interested in fighting fires need to meet certain medical and physical requirements and be willing to complete a basic firefighter training course that includes Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations. Once initial training is completed, members are ready to respond to a variety of emergencies and employ the use of many pieces of high-tech equipment to control hazardous situations.

  • What if I don’t want to fight fires, but help in other ways?

Volunteers are needed to fight fires, but we are always looking for fire police to assist at scenes and administrative members to help with various tasks at the fire station and events throughout the community.

  • Will I get paid?

Moorestown Fire Department volunteers do not receive financial compensation. However, training is free, which can potentially help launch a career as a first responder or medical professional. (Looks great on a resume!)

  • What are some benefits to volunteering?

The response and leadership skills attained as a volunteer firefighter can one day lead to a career in fire and EMS service. Volunteering is also a great way to make a difference, give back to the Moorestown community, and share in the camaraderie of joining a team ready to help its neighbors in need.

  • What is unique about the Moorestown Fire Department?

Volunteer firefighters in Moorestown respond to calls throughout the township, which is made up of buildings new and old, small and large. Moorestown may only be 15.2 square miles, but our department covers a community with a full spectrum of buildings: the township’s historical downtown Main Street, the Moorestown Mall, industrial facilities, Victorian homes, mid-rise apartments, or new construction. As a result, a wide variety of expertise operating specialized equipment and apparatus is required.
